The Criminal Division reviews and prosecutes felony and misdemeanor crimes submitted by the Carson City Sheriff's Office, Nevada Highway Patrol, and other law enforcement agencies. Seven criminal prosecutors handle a wide variety of criminal cases in the Justice and District Courts of Carson City, including DUI, Domestic Violence, Burglary, Theft, Sale of Controlled Substances, Robbery, Sexual Assault and Murder.

Garrit Pruyt grew up in Boulder City, Nevada and obtained a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration from the University of Nevada Las Vegas. Then, he attended Florida Coastal School of Law where he earned his Juris Doctor. Following graduation he served as law clerk to Judge Michael Villani of the Eighth Judicial District Court of Nevada. After his clerkship, Garrit moved to Carson City and started litigation practice with the Nevada Office of the Attorney General in the areas of civil rights and medical malpractice law. Garrit joined the Carson City District Attorney’s Office in 2015 as a criminal prosecutor. As a prosecutor, Garrit has served as the lead prosecutor in a number of complex criminal cases and consistently obtained convictions in trial. Garrit regularly teaches criminal law to incoming officers at the Nevada POST academy. Outside of work, he enjoys hiking and camping with his family.
